After two decades as a freelance line- and feature film producer, Lucia hung up her producer shoes to step into a commissioning editing position at Africa’s biggest subscriber-based, linear-tv and SVOD broadcaster, M-Net, a Canal+ company.  She oversees content over various genres, including Showmax's outlier hits such as true crime hit and 2023 Berlinale Series Market Selects Donkerbos, docu-series Steinheist, and Tracking Thabo Bester, kykNET’s outlier-rated true crime series Niggies (Cousins), family drama favourite Een Keer Om Die Son popular telenovela Diepe Waters, as well as the 2023/2025/2026 Silwerskermfees short films.

 

As a producer, she produced South African's Best Feature Film winner at the SAFTAS, i am ALL GIRLS, directed by Donovan Marsh’s, currently streaming on Netflix.  She ran the production on Etienne Kallos’ first feature film The Harvesters, which premiered at Cannes Un Certain Regard in 2018.  Also Matthys Boshoff’s short film Vlees van my vlees, which won Best Short Film at the kykNET Silwerskermfees 2016 and was selected in-competition at Cleremont-Ferrand (2018) and won the Platinum Remi at Worldfest-Houston IFF, amongst others.  Vlees is currently being developed into a feature version, with the support from The Dutch Film Fund, La Fabrique Cinema de l’Institue Français and Realness Screenwriters Residency.

 

Lucia was selected to partake in the 2022 Realness Creative Producers Indaba. She is a member of SWIFT and is an NFVF Sediba Producers Workshop 2010 and Durban Film Mart Finance Forum 2020 alumnus.  She holds both a cinematography and producing degree from AFDA and resides in Johannesburg with her always laughing, award-winning cinematographer husband, Tom Marais.
